Starting a consultancy: joy & uncertainty

My first experiences and personal reflections.

Starting my own company after a long career serving others has been an exciting and fulfilling experience. I've found the actual process of setting up the company In Finland to be quite straightforward, though it took a bit more time than I initially anticipated. The paperwork and formalities were easy to manage, but it’s true what they say—things do often move slower than expected. Thankfully, the experience was made smoother by the wealth of advice I received from more seasoned entrepreneurs, many of whom are former colleagues. Another challenge has been acting as your own personal IT support. Linking the external domain provider to Microsoft and back to the website proved to be a decent challenge, causing some delays in getting the site published.

By far the most exciting moment has been securing a first order from a major client. It was incredibly rewarding to see the trust placed in this new venture, for which I am deeply grateful. While the start of this journey has exceeded my expectations, it has also brought a natural sense of unpredictability as a trade-off. For that reason alone, I’ve been especially grateful for the many contacts and suggestions for future collaborations, reminding me of the strong relationships built over the years.
